Local Activities

The following activities are all within easy reach of  the cottage.

Cycling If you haven't brought your own bikes,it is possible to hire bikes near the train station in Brockenhurst.

Walking There are several flat, level walks nearby, also more demanding walks such  as along the shingle spit to Hurst Castle. A little further afield the New Forest is a walker's paradise and you can pick up maps from the Tourist Office in Lymington.

Sailing This area is renowned for the sailing activities. Lymington is home to some of our Olympic Sailors, and the Solent hosts many the world famous sailing events. There are two sailing clubs in Keyhaven about a mile away and two in Lymington about 2 miles away. 

Horse Riding This is a wonderful area for riding, there are several stables within a five mile radius. You can choose to have lessons or go out  into the Forest

Windsurfing Most of the beaches along the coast are good for windsurfing.The new reef at  Boscombe  will be a great attraction.

Golf There is a Golf course at Barton on Sea about a mile away, it is on the coast and has lovely views of the Needles and Isle of Wight and of the coast towards Bournemouth. There is another course in Lymington and a third in Brockenhurst about 3 miles away from the cottage.

Fishing There are sea fishing trips which can be booked from  Keyhaven and Lymington. You can also fish from the beaches and Hurst Spit.
 
Visit the Isle of Wight  To visit the Isle of Wight you can catch a passenger ferry from Keyhaven , also from Lymington Quay  to Hurst Castle and Yarmouth or the  car ferry from Lymington Pier.

Badger Watching There are several  special events arranged by the Forestry Commission for nature lovers.
